Sweden Women’s National Team dominate Nordic Cup.
Team 🇸🇪 Triumph in the Nordic Cup 2023 against Denmark, Norway, Finland. What an exhilarating three days in Finland.
Day 1:
🌄 Our adventure began against host team Finland. Despite a challenging start with early losses, a stellar partnership between senior batter Kanchan and young gun Anya set the stage for a high score. Unfortunately, Rain prevented the full innings and we posted 121 runs in 13 overs. Our bowlers shone, restricting Finland to 65/4 in this reduced game. Anya’s splendid performance earned her the Player of the Match title.
🌙 Later that day, we faced Denmark in our first T20I. Our local rivals. Winning the toss, we opted to bowl first, our Spin Twins Surya and Maria dominated the innings with regular wickets, claiming 5 and 3 wickets respectively, limiting Denmark to a mere 35/10 after 11 overs. Our batters swiftly chased the target in 4.4 overs with only 1 wicket down, showcasing our dominance in skill and execution against our neighbours.
Day 2 – Double Header Action:
🌞 Taking on Denmark once again, we chose to bowl first. Denmark displayed resilience this time, but our bowlers restricted them to 76/8 in 20 overs. A change in our top order led by debutant Dia and experienced Signe ensured a victory in 10 overs without losing a wicket. Kanchan Rana’s exceptional performance earned her the Player of the Match title. Once again showing outstanding skill and desire.
Our fourth match in two days welcomed Norway in our 3rd T20I match. Following a poor bowling performance, we chased down Norway score in less than 10 overs. Anya and Gunjan led the fight scoring at a consistent pace after losing 3 workers in the first 8 balls. They displayed mental toughness and showed their brilliance under pressure to secure victory. Anya’s magnificent efforts saw her clinch the Player of the Match title.
Day 3
☔ Despite adverse weather conditions, we persevered. With earlier matches abandoned, an 18-over match against Norway was our scheduled in our finals T20I match. Our young guns took center stage as three senior players included the captain were sidelined. Stand in skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first with Hareer and debutant Fatima restricting Norway to 20/2 in the powerplay. A brilliant display of fielding, run-outs, and wickets held Norway to 58 in 18 overs. Battling early wickets, we aimed to score above the DLS par score has rain persisted, however by the 12th over, we emerged victorious, completing the tour with a flawless record of 5 wins from 5 games.

I am very pleased to see the quality of cricket played during this tour. It was more pleasing to see different contributors to our success and new players taking responsibility under pressure. It was refreshing to see our debutants making valuable and match winning contributions and adapt to the our team culture as competition for places strengths. Overall great experience and exposure for the women’s team, returning unbeaten is a huge statement.
